UE lit project

Upper Elementary students recently completed a hands-on literature project inspired by The War That Saved My Life, a historical novel set during World War II. As they explored the story’s themes and historical setting, students created models and artifacts to represent important elements from the book and from life in wartime England.

Students crafted detailed projects such as a model pony like the one Ada learned to ride, a handmade wartime ration book, and clay figures representing key parts of the story. Each project helped students better understand the characters’ experiences and the challenges of everyday life during the war.

Through research, creativity, and presentation, students deepened their understanding of history while strengthening reading comprehension and communication skills. The project brought literature to life and allowed students to connect personally with the story in meaningful and memorable ways.
