WHY THE MONTESSORI ACADEMY?Because everything we do is child-centric. From our focus on emotional health to our rigorous academic curriculum, in our Preschool through Elementary and Junior High, we are able to meet the individual needs of every student. An emphasis on peace, understanding and respect allows our students to grow in ways that go far beyond traditional classroom learning and prepares them to find their unique place in the world. Our dual accreditation by the American Montessori Society (AMS) and the Independent Schools Association of the Central States (ISACS) serves to show our commitment to Montessori methods and philosophy as well as our rigorous academic standards. At TMA, joyful, lifelong learners are born in a warm and welcoming community that nurtures every child to their highest potential.

Be KindAt TMA, kindness is nurtured in every aspect of what we do. Through relationships, we build community based on understanding and trust. We guide students toward empathy in dealings with other people, including the use of peace tables and mindful interactions. We create experiences that allow our students to take responsibility for themselves, their peers and their community with an emphasis on leaving all situations better than we find them.
|
Be CuriousWe develop lifelong learners who ask questions, search for
answers and pursue academic achievement to better themselves and the world around them. We encourage our students to seek first to understand, and we nurture respectful dialogue toward that outcome. Our teachers set high expectations for how TMA students will work and behave. Our teachers and students build meaningful relationships with like goals of creating a sense of personal responsibility and an intrinsic love of learning. |
Be GratefulPracticing gratitude means paying attention to what we are thankful for and develops expressions of kindness and compassion to those around us and the wider world. At TMA we strive to practice gratitude and show appreciation for the beauty in our lives and for all cultures of the world. Our wonderfully diverse community provides opportunities for learning and understanding that go beyond the classroom. Everyone is to be respected and cared for and we commit to the ideal of justice for all.

“I have seen that the teachers genuinely care for their students’ well-being and success both with my preschool daughter and my third grade son. The qualities I have seen focused on are leadership, self-confidence, diversity, compassion/service, teamwork, and conflict resolution. We evaluated several other top private schools in the area and are 100% satisfied that The Montessori Academy is the best choice for our children.”

“When examined through the lens of environmental enrichment and brain development, Montessori education presents a radically different – and radically effective – educational approach that may be the best method we’ve got to ensure the optimal cognitive, social, and emotional development of every child.”

“We all possess an amazing potential within us. We all carry a thriving desire to be the best we can be and yet, so many people continue to limit themselves. If you work hard, stay dedicated, and never give up you will be successful every time. . . . Hidden in my heart is the hope that each person I meet feels a little bit better after meeting me. I always try to give them a smile and uplift them. If we treat each other better, the world is a better place.”
Michael Poole, Junior High teacher and Athletics Director. Mr. Poole was the recipient of the 2009 Human Rights Service Award

WHAT IS MONTESSORI EDUCATION?
For more than a century now, the child-focused approach that Dr. Maria Montessori, an Italian physician, developed for educating children has been transforming schools around the globe. As soon as you enter a classroom, you know that something different is afoot. Montessori classrooms are immediately recognizable. You will see children working independently and in groups, often with specially designed learning materials; deeply engaged in their work; and respectful of others and their surroundings. The Montessori Method fosters rigorous, self-motivated growth for children and adolescents in all areas of their development—cognitive, emotional, social, and physical.
